India, Japan conclude negotiations on signing of CEPA

Tokyo, Oct.25 (ANI): Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan on Monday asked their negotiators to arrive at a mutually satisfactory agreement for Civil Nuclear Cooperation at an early date.

A joint statement issued at the end of the talks here today stated that the two leaders have affirmed that cooperation in this sector open up new opportunities for further developing the India-Japan strategic and global partnership.

Earlier, they welcomed the start of the negotiations between the two countries on the agreement for cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy in June, 2010.

The two sides also announced the conclusion of the negotiation on comprehensive economic partnership agreement.

The agreement is expected to be signed at the earliest after the completion of necessary formalities by both countries. A Memorandum of Understanding on simplifying Visa procedures between the two countries was also signed.

Holding extensive talks on bilateral, regional and global issues of shared interest, Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Japan’s Prime Minister Naoto Kan, through a joint statement, on Monday reiterated the fundamental identity of values, interests and priorities between the two countries.
